The Clean Beauty Movement

We absorb over 60% of what we put on our skin into our bodies.

#Become Aware

I’ve run across many articles and Instagram accounts that are  having conversations about  clean beauty.  My eyebrows raised but it wasn't convincing enough to grab my full attention. Well shit, I was confused, (in my Leslie Jordan voice).  I saw buzzwords like all natural, organic, Eco friendly, and thought it was all the same.  It wasn’t until attending Aveda Institute NYC (Cosmetology/Aesthiology) when I became aware. Now as a hair stylist at Fekkai, an industry pioneer of clean beauty hair care, I am continually educating and encouraging conversations on the topic. Clean beauty is the new way of life ladies and gentlemen, and for good reasons.

What is Clean Beauty?

The clean beauty movement is about spotlighting the limited governance of cosmetics in the US. It’s about making ourselves more aware of the harmful effects toxic ingredients have on our bodies and our planet. It’s up to you to become familiar with the most common toxins in our skincare, beauty, body, and hygiene products. Unfortunately, that means the consumer (talking about you) has a lot of responsibility to pay attention. If you’re questioning the products on your shelf—good. That’s what I want you to do. I want you to question labels like “natural” and “green” because the truth is in the ingredients list.  The awareness of clean beauty is rising and it’s about DAMN TIME. A recent Harper’s BAZAAR poll found 50% of women of all ages, races and ethnicity are already making the switch to clean beauty products.

Clean beauty products:

  • Include non-toxic ingredients

  • Include natural ingredients but may also have synthetic ingredients that are safe for use.

  • Ensure safety for you and the planet; meaning Eco-friendly, sustainable, and cruelty free

  • Shouldn’t contain mystery ingredients or make false claims.

Simple right? Were you expecting words like “all-natural” or “organic?”

Don’t focus too much attention on  buzzwords like “natural” and “organic,” switching to clean beauty products focuses on eliminating as many toxins as possible from our daily products.

Clean beauty isn’t about being 100% perfect. This means yes, man-made ingredients are clean as long as they’re safe and non-toxic. This also means that clean beauty doesn’t have to be all-natural.

How will I know if a product is safe or non-toxic?

Embarking on the clean beauty movement, no matter how long it takes to overhaul your arsenal, is worth it. You cannot put a price on health. Go all in knowing that your well being, as well as the safety of your loved ones, are worth the time.  Research for yourself.
